Communities Directory - Part of the Intentional
Communities website, a project of the
Fellowship for Intentional Community (FIC) (in partnership
with other organizations). Intentional Communities can
update their listings online so you get the most up to date
information possible. If you are looking for an intentional
community, ecovillage, cohousing, commune, co-op, or other
cooperative living arrangement, browse through their
alphabetic list or search their database. You can filter
your search on many key characteristics of each community
such as location, size, etc. This website is funded
completely by donations plus volunteer labor. If you find
this site useful we encourage you to donate to the
Communities Directory Fund. The FIC also sells a
Communities
Directory book. Their new edition is
on sale now, and will be shipped in summer of 2005. It will
feature updated information from this website.

Project - The first Happy Healing
House and raw food center in the south of Spain that teaches
peace, health, ecology and ethic in one place! A place where
there is room for body and soul! This property has it all. A
magic entrance, crossing the river that goes along the
border, a large vega (flat land), terraced headland and
areas of fertile useable land. Oh yes, it also got 2,5 HA
cork oak forest. The Finca is only 4-6k from the nearest
village and most of it on tarmac, the remaining 3/4k stretch
of Carrel (track) is easily accessible and level, with only
little traffic passing through. Wonderful views of the
countryside and cork oak forests. South facing providing
early warm January sunshine, and is in a protected area
where two mountain meets. The river sweeps around the lower
part of the property. The property is surrounded by
wildlife, birds, silence and fresh air, at 500 meters over
the sea. Papaya, mango, bananas, almonds, cherimoya and
others will be planted here. Kakis, grapes, lemons, oranges,
clementines and olives are some of what is already here.

Ecoforest - Ecoforest is
changing - and the rest of this website does not fully
reflect the current Ecoforest situation. Due to an
insufficient number of pepole living on the Ecoforest land
we , the current Ecoforest trustees, are considering various
options for the future of Ecoforest. Ecoforest is a raw
eco-community and natural health / simple living education
project in southern Spain, where the situation is changing.
We need help to keep this project going, or something
similar - mainly we need people if we are to keep it going
as it is, otherwise we want to find ethically minded folk to
become owners of this special place. At the moment we
normally just have 2 or 3 people living at Ecoforest at any
given time, plus any visitors there might be. Ecoforest -
for Sale, Rent or Partnership, or for 'carers' to keep the
project ticking over for a year or two, without major input
from current trustees, and with access for current and new
members to live or stay at Ecoforest. Working out the future
will probably take a little while, so we are interested
in 1 to 4 individuals who would like to stay here during the
summer and keep the orange trees and other food plants
watered, etc. Ideally we would most like to maintain this as
a vegetarian, vegan and/or raw food eco/permaculture
project, or see it taken on by new owners to do this sort of
thing. The land is 1 Ha with 100+ oranges in mixed
orchard/forest garden, rustic house with opportunities to
improve and expand. One boundary is the Rio Grande, which
flows all year round - and which attracts a huge amount of
wildlife, from birds and beautiful dragon flies to otters
and an abundance of fish. There are many opportunities for
growing much more food here. We are open to partnership with
other organisations or individuals. Most people who come
here recognise that this is a special place. Email us at

GaiaYoga
Gardens Intentional Community - E-mail: aloha@gaiayoga.org. A learning
center and sanctuary for living in harmony with the Earth,
connecting with Spirit, engaging personal growth and
healing, and developing holistic & sustainable
life-patterns. We have a wonderful piece of property on the
east side of the Big Island of Hawaii (in Kapoho, near the
town of Pahoa). It's 17+ acres of forested land, with a very
strong Native-Hawaiian feeling. GaiaYoga Gardens is located
in a rural, alternative-lifestyle area where many people are
living off-grid and doing their best to live outside "the
system." There are a number of communities, organic farms,
and cooperative homesteads in this area. As a learning
center, we see GaiaYoga Gardens as a place where adults and
children can learn about holistic and sustainable living
&emdash; through classes, workshops, retreats, internships,
work-learning exchanges, and especially through experiencing
our lifestyle first-hand. We currently offer instruction in
sustainable homesteading (permaculture, off-grid technology,
bio-fuels, etc.), Nonviolent Communication, hatha yoga,
natural diet (including maximizing raw-foods in one's diet),
Tantra, spirituality, and cooperative living. Of course, we
expect our curriculum to expand as others join us with their
particular talents and skills. As a residential community,
we envision GaiaYoga Gardens as having a day-to-day
life-rhythm that's rooted in the integration of Spirit,
self, community, and Earth. For folks wanting to experience
the process of creating a sustainable homestead, developing
holistic culture, and doing personal growth and healing
within that context, we're currently offering Tours and
Internships. E-mail us if you're interested in either of
these options, and we'll send you more information.

Pangaia - We are a piece
of land, a group of people, a common vision. The land here
is young, situated on the eastern edge of the volcanic rift
zone of Hawaii. This is an extremely fertile area, blessed
with morning showers, and afternoon sun, (on good days).
Nearby, there are thermal warm water ponds, natural steam
vents, a beautiful crater lake, (Kahumana, or
Green-mountain), black sand beaches, and active lava flows.
Just 20 miles downwind from Pangaia, the volcano goddess,
Pele, is presently pouring herself into the ocean, creating
the newest land on the planet. Constant change seems to be
the theme both on the Island of Hawaii and for Pangaia. Over
the past 12 years, Pangaia has hosted 100's of visitors and
residents. At present, we are a core of 6 people at Pangaia
and there are others living abroad who call this "home". We
from very different backgrounds with a wide spread of ages
(our new born, Hana &endash; or elder, Denis,60). We are an
international community, including a Japanese-born member
named Yoko! So we love having guests from around the world.
Our vision is of unity with Gaia, the Earth mother, and with
each other; a full and complete expression of who we are
through our work, art, and play, as well as our
relationships with each other. We are a raw-food community
and are living active permaculture. We welcome guests,
visitors, interns, friends, and potential long-term
residents who are sincerely interested. Diet:
vegetarian/vegan/raw food/raw food omnivores(yes, meat!).
